Zoom: AJA to host Imam Tawhidion “Islam – Antisemitism & Israel”
The centre-right conservative-leaning Australian Jewish Association (AJA) will host a “ground-breaking” special event, a first within the Australian Jewish community.
Imam Mohammad Tawhidi will be the guest speaker for the next AJA Zoom event on Wednesday 24 June at 8pm AEST.
Known as the Imam of Peace, Imam Tawhidi is perhaps the most prominent voice of Islamic reform in the world. He speaks on anti-terrorism and security matters worldwide and has a massive social media following with over 850,000 on Twitter alone. He is well known for opposing radical Islamic extremism.
Imam Tawhidi has presented in either open forum or closed session to numerous parliamentary hearings in Europe, Canada and Australia on security issues and fighting extremism.
Last year he made history when he went to Auschwitz to call out antisemitism.
He also supports Israel as a Jewish state.
He is an occasional columnist for The Times of Israel and author of a book titled “The Tragedy of Islam”.
The subjects which will be discussed focus on arguably the two most problematic issues at the interface between Islam and Judaism:
Antisemitism – studies show a very high rate of antisemitic attitudes not only within many majority Islamic states but also within the Muslim communities of Western countries.
Israel – there are often very negative attitudes to Israel amongst Muslim communities, although there may be some moderation developing in a few Gulf states.
So what forms the basis of these attitudes and what can be done about it.
Imam Tawhidi puts his life at risk in extending a hand of friendship to the Jewish community and challenging these stereotypes. He has been subject to physical assaults, has received hundreds of death threats and requires bodyguards to venture out in public.
Not to be missed so PUT IT IN YOUR DIARY and a few minutes before 8pm tomorrow, login using this link: https://zoom.us/j/3165713105
