ZFA backs Scott Morrison
The Zionist Federation of Australia strongly supports the Government in reaffirming its commitment to review the possible relocation of its Embassy from Tel Aviv to West Jerusalem and thus, formally recognise Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
This commitment reflects the almost 70 years of close diplomatic relations shared between Australia and Israel.
Jeremy Leibler, President of the ZFA has sent a letter to the Australian Prime Minister, Scott Morrison, commending him for his moral clarity on this issue – “As a sovereign nation, Israel has the right to determine its own capital. Israel has determined Jerusalem to be that capital and a decision to relocate the Australian Embassy there will reflect what already exists in reality”.
Given the extent of the misinformation circulated in relation to the proposed move of Australia’s embassy to West Jerusalem, the Zionist Federation of Australia has today distributed the attached fact sheet to members of Parliament and other relevant Government agencies.
Hi,
I respectfully object to the Use Of East
& West Jerusalem; in particular a Jewish Organization
There is only ONE Jerusalem and the only ONE Undivided Capital Of ISRAEL.
Unfortunately, the morality of the situation is not what was governing Scott Morrison’s thoughts on the subject – it was pure politics. I do hope it comes to pass, but fear it will not. However, he’s put himself between a rock and a hard place now, with Indonesia so blatantly making a new trade agreement contingent on Australia not moving the embassy to Jerusalem; he has the difficult choice of perhaps no trade agreement if sticking to his supposed intent or looking weak if backing down, with our foreign policy being dictated by another country.
As to Malaysia, it was great that Josh Frydenberg called that for what it is: anti-Israel and anti-semitic.
ZFA members get one vote each like other Australians at federal election time.
The Tel Aviv embassy will not be moved and Steve Chobo (Defence Industry Minister) said yesterday on radio that his personal view is that Tel Aviv is the best place for our embassy. The Wentworth bi-election embassy stunt got no traction either and possible backfired on the Liberal in Wentworth.
