Israeli jazz musicians have headed an evening of jazz in Melbourne hosted by the ZCV.

Hadar

Hadar Noiberg and Yohai Cohen

Over 100 Zionist Council of Victoria patrons and guests were treated to the music of  Hadar Noiberg, Yohai Cohen and Australian Katherine Buckell.

Hadar is an international flautist, composer and arranger who has established herself as a major force in the Cuban, jazz and world music scenes. She started her career at a young age as a classical musician, touring with the Young Philharmonic Orchestra and studying at the Tel Aviv Academy of Music. She transferred to the City College of New York where she completed her Bachelor’s degree majoring in flute and composition.

Hadar was joined evening by a fellow Israeli and musician Yohai Cohen who brought his blend of Moroccan heritage to a musically inspiring evening. Now based in Australia, Yohai left his family town of Tzfat to pursue his dream. He is an exceptional singer, Oud player and high-end percussionist who combines all his talents while keeping the traditional sound of “home”.

The Australian component of the evening was rounded out with Katherine Buckell who lent her voice, love of Australian poetry and her own velvety jazz sound to the success of the evening.

Hadar made the long commute from New York to Australia to participate in the Port Fairy folk festival. We were delighted that she was able to join us for a very special evening.
