Yom Ha’azmaut: Melbourne
Melbourne’s Caulfield Hebrew Congregation hosted over 420 guests at the Palladium Room at Crown to celebrate Yom Ha’atzmaut – Israel’s 67th birthday.
Premier of Victoria, the Hon. Daniel Andrews MP, special guest speaker addressed the guests about the positive contribution and role that Israel plays in the world today.
Ms Ethy Levy, Head of Israel Trade Commission to Australia enthralled the guests with her presentation highlighting so many of Israel’s fascinating advances in fields ranging from technology to bio medics.
Rabbi Genende described the breakfast as “…a triple celebration for us ; firstly it’s about our connection to Israel as a proud Modern Orthodox and Zionist community; secondly it’s about our pride as an Australian congregation thriving in an open multicultural society and the Premier’s presence emphasised this; thirdly it about savouring our achievements as a centre of excellence and energy . This morning highlights what we do best :connect to our members in a spirit of openness and professionalism offering vision and direction ,hope, spirituality and camaraderie accompanied by good food!”
President of Caulfield Shule, Robert Weil added “The breakfast is traditionally our major highlight of the year. This year’s event attracted a record attendance. The presence of Premier Dan Andrews and his warm words regarding Israel and the Jewish community was well received by all. In addition to this there was a heightened sense of elation this year due to the enthusiastic response of our members to the exciting news of our major development plans.”
