Yeshiva still on the hook
Reports that Waverley Council is expecting to write off a $10,000 debt owed to it by the Yeshiva Centre have been rebutted by Mayor Sally Betts.
Last week’s Wentworth Courier reported that the debt for waste management had been incurred between November 2011 and May 2012 and that the debt collectors had failed to track down former directors of the Centre believed to be responsible for the debt
Mayor Betts told J-Wire: “At the Council meeting on 19 May 2015 this is the motion that was moved.
“That Council instructs its solicitors to issue a statement of liquidated claim against Yosef Feldman and Sydney Talmudical College Association for the debt owed plus costs and interest, and pursues a judgement in court and the enforcement of that judgement. “
At the Council meeting on 16 December Council asked that the actual entity or individual that incurred the debt be advised and a report be given as to the steps that had been taken to recover the debt. The amount owing is $10,705.50 and although the Sydney Talmudical College Association has apparently been wound up Council will instruct its solicitors to take further action.”
A spokesman for the Yeshiva Centre told J-Wire that the debt belonged to a previous entity before the Yeshiva Centre was restructured at the end of 2012. The restructure involved a change of management and change of ownership of the main buildings.
