Woolworth shopper wearing a swastika armband
A shopper in the Clarinda branch of Woolworths supermarket in Melbourne was wearing a swastika Nazi armband last weekend.
A young mother told the UK Daily Mail: “I was grateful that I had left my young daughter at home. This man seemed unpredictable – I was scared in my own local supermarket, in my own neighbourhood.
‘He clearly wanted to be noticed – he wasn’t just an ignorant racist, he was delighting in spreading fear.”
Woolworths told the paper that they would have liked their security to have been alerted.
Dr Dvir Abramovich, Chairman of the Anti-Defamation Commission is leading a campaign to criminalise the public showcasing of Nazi emblems.
He told J-Wire: “Most people will be horrified by this chilling image, and will rightly ask themselves: how is it that this outrageous behaviour, meant to terrorise shoppers, is still legal in Australia?
Once again, neo-Nazism, in its full display, has invaded our streets and supermarkets. This stomach-churning celebration of the murder of six million Jews and millions of others by an individual with burning hate in his heart is a reminder why it’s time to shut down these extremists and ban the public display of the swastika.
This is not Hitler’s Germany, and no one should be forced to see this terrifying symbol, which in essence in a call to murder Jews and anyone who does not fit into to warped Aryan worldview. No wonder some feel like it is open season on the Jewish community, as an increasing number of agitated white-supremacists are emboldened, and are publicly expressing their admiration for the genocidal Third Reich.
This act is a full-frontal assault on the decency of all Australians and should serve as another wake-up call that the virus of racism still remains a dramatic problem in our nation. Our leaders have a responsibility to show action in the face of such disturbing episodes. The time for talking is over. Now our elected representatives must act and to close the lid on this grisly phenomenon.”
