WJC welcomes new U.S. sanctions against Iran
The World Jewish Congress has welcomed the U.S. Treasury Department’s decision to announce new sanctions against Iran following its recent ballistic missile test, calling it a “firm and appropriate” stance against the Islamic Republic’s continued aggression against Israel, the United States, and their allies.

WJC President Ronald S. Lauder said: “Iran consistently exploits the good faith of the international community with defiant acts of aggression across the Middle East and unabated threats against Israel and the United States, including threatening to wipe Israel off the map. The U.S. administration has taken a firm and appropriate stance in the wake of recent current events, and shown that it will not tolerate Iran’s repeated subversions of the nuclear agreement, and that it will respond to every threat accordingly.”
“It is imperative that the entire international community recognise that we are dealing with an erratic and dangerous regime with enormously destructive nuclear capabilities at its fingertips. We must be extraordinarily prudent and responsive to every threatening act or statement they make,” Lauder added.
Rabbi Joel H. Meyers, Chair, WJC US, said: “With these sanctions, the administration is demonstrating its commitment to hold Iran, the world’s foremost sponsor of terrorism, accountable for its ongoing aggression in the Middle East and beyond, which is necessary to the safety of the American people and of those in other countries. We will work with the Congress and the administration in order to do all we can to stop the Iranian regime’s very real threat to not only the United States, but also to all our allies. We call on other countries to follow this administration’s example and not allow Iran to flout international law.”
