The gathering aimed to raise essential funds for the construction of a bomb shelter in Beit Hakerem, Israel, reflecting WIZO’s commitment to the safety and well-being of children and educators in conflict zones.

The evening featured heartfelt speeches from key speakers, including Raya Gal, Head Nurse at Soroka Hospital. Gal shared her frontline experiences, highlighting the urgent need for fortified shelters to protect children in areas like Sderot. Her moving address illustrated the direct impact of WIZO’s mission on vulnerable communities.

World WIZO President Anat Vidor added an international perspective, discussing the organization’s global efforts to support those at risk. She emphasized the importance of initiatives like building bomb shelters, which are crucial for ensuring safety in high-risk areas.

The session billed as Defenders of Our People also featured actor Nate Buzz and digital influencer Zara Cooper, known as Clammy Fraud. Buzz engaged the audience with his passionate appeal for collective support during crises, while Cooper spoke on the power of social media in driving awareness and support for critical causes.

Alex Ryvchin, Co-CEO of the Executive Council of Australian Jewry (ECAJ), delivered a compelling speech on the broader implications of the conflict in Israel and the vital role of diaspora communities in providing aid and solidarity. His words reinforced the significance of the evening’s cause.

Before the main event, a pre-function gathering was held for over 100 members of the WIZO NSW Lev Echad community, representing the future leadership of WIZO NSW. This session introduced them to the evening’s goals and highlighted the importance of their continued involvement.

The fundraising efforts culminated in a successful campaign, with all proceeds going towards the construction of bomb shelters for WIZO childcare centres in Sderot. The event showcased the power of community and international solidarity, uniting influential speakers, dedicated supporters, and passionate advocates in the mission to protect Israel’s most vulnerable.
