Windsor update: Jewish Care calls on urgent help for care homes
Jewish Care Victoria is continuing to do everything possible under the very difficult circumstances to manage the situation at our Residential Home in Windsor, where we have a significant number of diagnosed elders and staff.
While we continue with our well-documented and practiced outbreak plan, the reality is that COVID-19 is stretching and straining the health and care sectors in ways never seen before. Many health care workers have contracted COVID- 19 or are at home quarantined due to close contact. Aged care providers managing COVID-19 in their homes continue to face unprecedented difficulty in sourcing staff.
Throughout this pandemic we have advocated to both the Victorian and Federal Aged Care and Health Ministers and government departments about the urgent need for staffing solutions for aged care. We continue to do so.
We are working with the Department of Health & Human Services, Alfred Health, Ramsay Health Care and the Commonwealth Department of Health to support the wellbeing of all elders and staff.
Currently there are:
- 30 active cases amongst our elders
- 20 active cases amongst our staff
Retesting of all elders and staff occurred yesterday
Our elders continue to receive care from our staff with clinical oversight from our Clinical Care Coordinator, their GPs and Alfred Health in-reach services.
Ensuring the safety and wellbeing of our elders, staff and the community remains our highest priority and we will continue to take every precaution to achieve this so far as is possible.
We are continuing to support our elders, families and staff at our Residential Home in Windsor and families are being kept up to date regarding their loved one’s conditions.
All at Jewish Care hope and pray for the wellbeing or elders and staff infected. Families are reminded to use the dedicated call centre that has been set up:
8517 5556 or communications@jewishcare.org.au.
