Why did Ron Lauder and PA head Abbas meet in Ramallah?
American Jewish businessman Ronald Lauder, president of the World Jewish Congress, was flown into Ramallah on Saturday by a Jordanian military helicopter where he met with Palestinian Authority (PA) head Mahmoud Abbas.
The PA’s official WAFA news agency reported on the visit but did not discuss its content.
Sources in Ramallah confirmed that Lauder met with Abbas but refused to elaborate, but Israeli sources told TPS that the two discussed diplomatic matters.
Lauder and the WJC have remained silent on the meeting.
Lauder was formerly close to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and was involved in a number of diplomatic issues and recently met with the Egyptian president Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi.
Lauder had previously met with Abbas.
