The international shopping centre chain will light menorahs for Chanukah around the world…one has been lit in their Sydney CBD flagship centre…

Cantor Shimon Farkas, Rabbi Alan Garb, Rabbi Jeremy Lawrence, Rabbi Levi Wolff and Rev David Hilton

The Great Synagogue and The Central Synagogue joined forces last night at Westfield Sydney to bring the festival of light to shoppers, families and business people alike in inner Sydney.

Celebrating night three of lighting, Rabbi Jeremy Lawrence and Rabbi Levi Wolff hosted a nearly 100 strong crowd, with the help of Chazanim from both Synagogues, The Central Synagogues Boys Choir and local singer Hylton Chilchik.

The Chanukah event at Westfield Sydney also attracted a large number of people who had little or no knowledge of the celebrations, and who enjoyed clapping along to the catchy music and partaking in a festival favourite – jam donuts.

Immediately following the family event, young professionals were invited to an exclusive drinks party hosted by Westfield Sydney.

Rabbi Lawrence and Rabbi Wolff said that often business people don’t get the opportunity to take part in Chanukah celebrations.  Westfield’s initiative, which has been primarily driven by its CEO Steven Lowy, is allowing us to share this festival with our Jewish communities while including and educating the non-Jewish community too.

Chanukah celebrations are taking place at Westfield Shopping Centres across  Australia and the US.
