Webinar: Boosting your immune system – never more important than now
The purpose of this Wolper seminar is to assist our audience in learning how they can “boost one’s immunity”, especially important during this time of the COVID19 pandemic.
Simple and factual, without fake cures or “I heard this really works …” will be the theme of the evening. Our panellists for the evening are:
Professor Stuart Tangye is an Immunologist; head of The Immunology and Immunodeficiency Lab, Garvan Institute; Conjoint Professor, St Vincent’s Clinical School, Faculty of Medicine, UNSW; Chair of Clinical Immunogenomics Research Consortium of Australasia (CIRCA). He established his own independent research lab in 2002 and was recruited to the Garvan Institute in 2006. His passion is for human immunology, cell biology and immune deficiencies.
Professor Katherine Samaras is an endocrinologist and clinical researcher. She is a senior staff specialist in the Department of Endocrinology, St Vincent’s Hospital and is the Founder and Director of the Australian Centre for Metabolic Health (St Vincent’s Campus) addressing the diseases of diabetes and obesity, their treatment and prevention. She will talk about lifestyle changes to assist your immune system.
Dr Joanna McMillan is one of Australia’s favourite and most trusted health and wellbeing experts. She is a PhD qualified nutrition scientist, an accredited practising dietitian and a former fitness instructor. Joanna is a regular on television, radio and in
print media, and a proud ambassador for Diabetes Australia, The Skin and Cancer Foundation, FoodBank NSW/ACT and Muscular Dystrophy. Born and raised in Scotland, Joanna immigrated to Australia in 1999. She will address nutrition and immunity. Joanna says it is often an over-response from the immune system that causes symptoms and problems (including for COVID-19), but nutrition is certainly a key part of your defence.
