Walt Secord send his message for Rosh Hashanah
Walt Secord, the deputy leader of the Opposition in the NSW Legislative Council and the deputy chair of the NSW Parliamentary Friends of Israel, has a message for Rosh Hashanah.
“To all members of the NSW Jewish community, I extend my warmest wishes for a happy, healthy and sweet new year.
Rosh Hashanah is a special time – and one that is celebrated in synagogues across our wonderful State, and in homes where families come together to recite the Kiddush, dip apples in honey, enjoy a meal together and wish one another Shana Tova.
As well as a celebration, it is a time for members of the Jewish community to reflect on the year gone by, to look inwards and pray.
It is true that there are many challenges facing our society, but we are re-assured that the Jewish community is working diligently with others to improve and strengthen our tolerant, cohesive society.
We pray for a lasting peace in the Middle East with a safe and secure Israel – and join with Israel as she prays for the health of statesman, peacemaker, former prime minister and former president Shimon Peres after his recent stroke.
As deputy chair of the NSW Parliamentary Friends of Israel and deputy leader of the Opposition in the NSW Parliament’s Legislative Council, it is with great pleasure that I say to you all: “L’Shana Tova u’metukha”.”
