Bring along a picnic and enjoy the grounds and surrounds of Victoria’s historic Government House as part of an Open Day on Australia Day, Friday, 26 January 2018.

Government House

Tour the State Apartments and enjoy a range of free family activities, displays and performances throughout the 11 hectares of grounds. Food vendors will also be on site.

Completed in 1876, Government House is located off St Kilda Road, next to the Royal Botanic Gardens.

Entry is free. Gates open at 9.30 am.

Activities include:

  • Tour the House
  • Bricks4Kidz – Take part in Lego play, technical Lego and robotics activities
  • Live broadcast by 3MBS Fine Music – Listen to the special broadcast on Australian musicians and composers
  • Ceremonial Trees – Discover which trees were planted by royalty, and former Governors and their spouses
  • Collingwood Children’s Farm – Pet some farm animals
  • CFA Education Bus and Display Vehicle – Learn about the CFA and how to be fire safe
  • Historic vehicles – View the Historic State Coach on loan from Museum Victoria for the day and also former State Governor’s cars.
  • Living Legends – Pat former champion race horses in the historic Hopetoun Stables
  • Enjoy roving performances and music throughout the day
