UIA to host top Israel educator
UIA will host the formidable Charlotte Korchak – Senior Educator at StandWithUs, at a variety of events in November in Sydney and Melbourne.
Charlotte educates and trains students from around the world in Israeli history and activism on topics including combatting antisemitism on campus and addressing challenges against Israel.
She grew up in both the United States and Israel, spending her formative years living in Jerusalem during the second intifada, giving her both an internal and external perspective on Israel and the conflict. Charlotte graduated with a BA in Middle Eastern history from the University of Southern California, where she also took part in the StandWithUs Emerson Fellowship. Charlotte has since been working for StandWithUs – an international Israel education organisation inspiring and educating people of all ages and backgrounds, challenging misinformation and fighting antisemitism.
Initially serving as the West Coast Campus Coordinator based in Los Angeles, she then immigrated back to Israel, transferring to the StandWithUs Israel office. In her current role, Charlotte works with over 10,000 students a year from nearly every continent, educating them about Israel and training them to be effective activists in their high schools, universities and communities worldwide. She has quickly become one of the foremost public speakers in her field.
UIA NSW and ZFA are hosting a thought-provoking community event on 6 November – Israel Education & Activism Seminar with Charlotte, who will speak on two topics. These include ‘Deep Dive into the West Bank: History, Legality & Policy’ and ‘Concepts & Misconceptions About Israel, Zionism & Jews’.
Charlotte will also be the guest speaker at two UIA NSW Young Leadership events. These include an interactive session – ‘Grill the Expert: Tackling Anti-Israel Narratives on Social Media’ on 6 November, which will allow the audience to ask the most difficult questions they have faced and receive answers rooted in the facts, as well as be given the tools to respond effectively to the different audiences they may encounter. The second event is a Young Adult Shabbat Dinner with AUJS on 4 November.
UIA VIC is co-hosting a public forum with ZFA and Zionism Victoria, where Charlotte will address ‘Concepts & Misconceptions About Israel, Zionism & Jews’ on 9 November.
UIA Australia CEO Yair Miller said: “UIA is proud to once again be bringing world-leading speakers and educators to our community. With the constant increase in antisemitism and anti-Israel sentiment on our campuses and in our schools, it is a coup to be bringing one of the leading educators in this space to engage with our community. There are public events for all members of the community and she will also engage with our university and Jewish Day school students. We encourage anybody with an interest in learning about advocacy or just broadening your knowledge to book soon, as the events will almost certainly sell out. Space is limited at all events.”
