UIA to host Peter Lerner – former IDF spokesperson for the foreign media
The United Israel Appeal is will host Lieutenant Colonel (Res.) Peter Lerner, former Israel Defence Forces spokesperson to the foreign media at a series of events in Perth, Melbourne and Sydney later this month.
Peter Lerner experienced a career of 25 years in the IDF, where he led a staff of over 70 which communicated to the world about the IDF across traditional and social media.
Always on the forefront of controversy and conflict, Lerner’s role was especially highlighted in crisis situations – which were frequent, fast-paced and gained media attention. In 2014, Newsweek suggested that he had the “worst media job in the world” but was “a breath of fresh air, bringing new clarity and professionalism” to military relations with the media.
Lerner has been called ‘Israel’s other Iron Dome’ due to his deflecting attacks on Israel during the Gaza conflict. He is also ranked 5th among the most influential people on the ‘Jewish Twitter’ list and was voted one of Israel’s top flag bearers who made a significant contribution in shaping the State of Israel.
Currently, Lerner provides consultancy services in crisis communications, strategic communications, social media and reputation management.
“Peter Lerner is the highest ranking member of the IDF’s communication team to come to Australia in many years. This is an outstanding opportunity for UIA supporters across Australia to engage with one of the most articulate and forceful defenders of the IDF and Israel,” NSW UIA CEO Yair Miller said.
“His insights are unparalleled and we sincerely hope the community will join us and ask all the questions they have always wanted answered about Israel’s PR and communications.”
