UIA NSW Women’s Divison award for outstanding commitment by an emerging leader
UIA NSW Women’s Division has launched the inaugural Shirley Lowy Award for Outstanding Commitment by an Emerging Leader.
Named in honour of the late Shirley Lowy, a dedicated philanthropist who devoted herself tirelessly to supporting the Australian Jewish community and the People of Israel, this annual award is presented to a female trailblazer who shows an ongoing commitment to the future of women’s philanthropy.
The selected winner will have the opportunity to travel to Israel to visit Keren Hayesod-UIA projects and meet with other female Jewish communal leaders from around the world. This will enable the recipient to gain a better understanding of the critical role that the Australian Jewish community has played in supporting and empowering the most vulnerable People of Israel for the past 103 years.
UIA NSW Women’s Division Executive member Judy Lowy said: “My mother-in-law was so passionate about supporting Israel through UIA and so proud of her involvement with UIA Women’s Division. She would have loved nothing more than to know that this prize had been established in her memory and to know that it will enable future leaders from our wonderful Sydney Jewish community to travel to Israel to further develop their connection to and support of the People of Israel with Jewish women from all over the world,”
This year, the award was presented to Lauren Briggs for her unwavering commitment to UIA and the People of Israel.
“Lauren has been a member of our UIA NSW Women’s Division executive since November 2018 and is passionate about women’s philanthropy and the support we provide to Israel’s most vulnerable. We are sure she will find the trip to Israel meaningful and inspiring,” UIA NSW Women’s Division President Caroline Bolot said.
The Shirley Lowy Award for Outstanding Commitment by an Emerging Leader will be presented annually at the UIA Women’s Division Campaign Event to a recipient who has devoted at least three consecutive years of active involvement to UIA as a committee member or volunteer.
