U.S. visitor killed in Melbourne to be buried today

An orthodox Holocaust survivor  killed in a road accident in Melbourne on Wedneday, is expected to be buried in his home town of New Square in New York State today.

Yitzchok Rotenberg, 71, died in the Alfred Hospital shortly after admission on Wednesday. He had been hit by a motorcycle shortly after leaving the Ma’ariv service at the Adass Israel Synagogue.

Rotenberg had been visiting his son and his son’s family on a periodic visit. He has been doing so for over 15 years.

According to police, Rotenberg had stepped into the path of the oncoming motorcycle.

Special arrangements were reportedly made with the coroner’s office to allow his body to be aired back to his home town of New Square in N.Y. to comply with Jewish burial requirements.
