Ron Hoenig was appointed to the energy and ports portfolio while Mr Secord, who is a former Australian Jewish News journalist was appointed Labor’s Shadow spokesperson on Water and Shadow Special Minister of State.

The appointment was announced on October 17 by NSW Opposition leader, John Robertson at State Parliament.

Mr Secord worked at the Australian Jewish News from 1988 to 1991.

Other appointments include Fairfield MP, Mr Guy Zangari as shadow for citizenship and communities, responsible for working with the State’s various ethnic and ethno-specific communities and Keira MP, Mr Ryan Park as shadow roads spokesperson.
Mr Robertson said his new team was “fresh, energetic and will take the fight up to Barry O’Farrell”.
“I’m pleased to announce today that four of our newest and most energetic members of parliament will join my frontbench team – helping to rebuild Labor and take the fight up to the O’Farrell Government,” Mr Robertson said.
Mr Secord said he was honoured by the promotion and looked forward to new challenges. “The water portfolio includes Sydney Water, stormwater and the desalination plant and Special Minister of State is about government accountability and monitoring waste,” Mr Secord said.
