Synman, 64, had been a member of the Board for more than 2½ years, and had been responsible for the marketing and web site management of the national Jewish sports body.

Maccabi Australia president Harry Procel told J-Wire: “Helen was a woman who kept you on your toes and she will be sadly missed”.

In prior years, Synman served on the board of Maccabi Victoria where she was currently maintaining the organisation’s archives.

In July, Helen Synman visited Israel where she was the number one supporter of her granddaughter Marni Burger who won seven swimming medals, including two golds competing in the Maccabiah.

In previous years, Helen Synman served the Victorian community in other spheres, notably Mt Scopus College where she served as a board member from 1989, heading the committee which organised the school’s Jubilee in 1996.  She served as vice-president of the Jewish Community Council of Victoria from 1991 – 1992.

Helen Synman died as the result of a stroke. She is survived by her husband Alan and daughters Leora and Nikki.
