Top Israeli human rights lawyer heading Down Under for UIA events
Israeli human rights lawyer, Gadi Ezra will be visiting Australia later this month as a guest of the United Israel Appeal in NSW and Victoria.
Ezra holds an unparalleled perspective on war – as a human rights lawyer and soldier in the Special Forces. He is currently advising the defence establishment on strategic international aspects, while pursuing his PhD in Law.
Selected by Forbes Magazine’s ‘30 under 30’ most influential leaders in Israel, Ezra already holds three law degrees, specialising in public law and human rights. He headed the Laws of War desk at the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs, advising diplomats on humanitarian law, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, human rights and sanctions regimes.
Drawing from his personal experience and his strong academic and practical background as a human rights lawyer, he examines the complexities of applying the law in warfare in actual combat. Using first-hand experiences, such as his service during Operation Cast Lead – in which his Special Forces unit was among the first infantry units to enter the Gaza Strip, he illustrates modern challenges, difficulties faced and the IDF’s high standards.
In NSW, Ezra will speak at a Mentor Lunch on 21 June and a Legal Lunch on 25 June. He will also address guests at Kehilat Kadimah on 23 June and Emanuel Synagogue on 25 June. For details, contact (02) 9361 4273 or [email protected].
UIA Victoria will be hosting Ezra for a Women’s Division ‘in conversation’ event on 26 June and a YoungUIA EOFY Sessions event on 27 June. Tickets are available at uiaaustralia.org.au/our-events/vic or contact 1300 ISRAEL (1300 477 235).
He will also be addressing a Legal Lunch in Victoria on 27 June.
“I am looking forward to engaging with the wonderful Jewish community in Australia and sharing my perspective. It is a true honour and I’m thankful for having this opportunity,”Ezra said.
“Considering the current situation on the Southern and Northern borders of Israel, it is an amazing opportunity for our donors in Sydney and Melbourne to hear from one of Israel’s most connected legal minds. Gadi’s story and experience is very unique and once again, UIA is very proud to be bringing another top calibre speaker to connect our community with Israel,“ UIA CEO Yair Miller said.
