Top Chazan for St Kilda
After an international search commencing in March, St Kilda shule announced this week that it had appointed Chazan Brett Kaye to lead the Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur services in the main shule this year.
A selection committee appointed by the shule undertook the task to audition almost a dozen local, interstate and overseas candidates including those from Israel, South Africa and the UK. St Kilda Shule Board member, Anton Block, described the appointment of Chazzan Kaye as a real coupe for the Shule.
Chazan Kaye, who moved to Sydney’s Moriah College two years ago, had been the longstanding chazan of Central Shule Chabad in South Caulfield.
He was also the musical director and soloist with the Melbourne Jewish Male Voice Choir which the late Rabbi Lubofsky and Rabbi Heilbrunn founded many years ago. Chazzan Kaye will be accompanied by the main shule choir over the High Holydays and by the combined main shule and Adele Southwick Centre overflow choir on second day Rosh Hashanah. Limited seats are still available in both the main shule and the Adele Southwick Centre services for the forthcoming Rosh Hashanah.
