Too Close for Comfort
J-Wire has received an image taken earlier today showing just how close the flooded Brisbane River got to the Brisbane Hebrew Congregation’s synagogue in Market St in the city’s CBD.
Ari Heber told J-Wire that the water was just a tad more than 30 mtrs from the synagogue buildings. As reported earlier, the Sifrei Torahs had been removed to safe spots.
Rabbi Hanoch Sufrin has returned to Brisbane from Melboure. He told J-Wire that a meeting has been scheduled for this afternoon between the Queensland Jewish Community Services, Chabad, the Queensland Jewish Board of Deputies and the National Council of Jewish Women to co-ordinate the mammoth clean-up job expected when the waters subside. Rabbi Sufrin told J-Wire: “We are aware of homes and businesses which are completely under water. There are members of the community who are stranded in their own homes without power…but they are expected to be reached as soon as the water levels lower.
Chabad Brisbane has posted a special web site for those wishing full information of the developing situation in South East Queensland…
