The Zionist Federation of New Zealand comments on the ‘deal of the century’
Rob Berg “It is good after many months of speculation to finally see President Trump’s peace plan. It is equally disappointing that the Palestinians have rejected it outright.”
Rob Berg added: “Instead of a ‘thousand no’s’ it would have been more encouraging and beneficial for both Israelis and Palestinians if Mahmoud Abbas had of accepted the plan as the basis and starting point of direct negotiations.
Abbas, and Arafat before him, passed up an opportunity for a Palestinian State in 2008, an offer which gave the Palestinians more than they are being offered now. His intransigence then leading to much unnecessary bloodshed on both sides. I hope this time they choose the path of peace as opposed to the path of continued conflict. The sooner the Palestinians accept Israel is not going anywhere, the sooner an agreement will be achievable.”
Rob Berg is also president of JNF New Zealand.
The New Zealand Jewish Council declined to comment. A spokesperson told J-Wire it is “not really within our ambit.”
