Jewish Care residents, clients and volunteers now have a new place to meet, talk and share their enthusiasm with like-minded bookworms at the new Book Club held monthly at The Lamm Jewish Library of Australia…but the club has no name.

JCMne‘The Great Gatsby’ by F Scott Fitzgerald is the first book being discussed by the new group at their first club meeting this month. Over a cup of tea and biscuits, residents from Jewish Care’s Montefiore Homes and Gary Smorgon House passionately shared opinions and perspectives about books and history.

“We had a roaring good time,” said volunteer Yvonne Shelling, who facilitates the group. “With the recent movie and all the hype, The Great Gatsby is the perfect book to stimulate dialogue and keep residents feeling in line with the times, as well as being a quality classic for all to enjoy.”

Librarian Mary Lavi said everyone enjoyed being part of lively discussion in a great environment saying: “The Lamm Jewish Library offers space, refreshments and a warm welcome.”

Knowing that residents enjoyed reading and discussing books amongst themselves, Jewish Care staff together with residents from Montefiore Homes initiated talks with Library Director Leonie Fleiszig and the book club was formed.

The book club is looking for a name and also for donors who would like to donate money towards the cost of the books. If you think you have a good name for the club or would have the ability to donate, please contact
Dalia Siegel on 8517 5905 or [email protected] .
