THE OTHER FUTSAL SUCCESS STORY …
Another popular member of Maccabi and Australia’s futsal community has enjoyed a stellar season too.
Zvi Ben David, an influential figure in the establishment of futsal within Maccabi and a Maccabiah coach and player, has steered the Vipers club to the top of the NSW Premier League – the top tier of summer futsal in NSW.
The Vipers, where he is president, head coach, and as Zvi jokes, also the cleaner, came second in the Premier League club championship.
Not only did his club win the Michael Wrublewski cup against Maccabi, the 5-star pre-season tournament, the Stanhope Gardens Charity Shield, the Vipers/Enfield Cup; they are the most successful club three years running at the NSW State Titles and made 7/9 final series across the age groups in the Premier League. The club had five sides in grand finals, and won 2, the under-12 and under-16 girls.
Zvi, who says he gets most satisfaction out of coaching kids and says “I enjoy it, I’m passionate about it, I’ve played it for all my life”, takes great pride in his role in creating ‘developing squads’ across all Premier League clubs, and the Stan Prichard Cup, which is a tournament for under-9s, 10s and 11s, which Maccabi kids can enter.
“I will be surprised if they don’t win the European Championships. They should win it. They’ve got the talent, they’ve been together for a long time. There is no team in Australia where somebody has spent more time on it. John Myers has done absolutely everything in his power for them to succeed. These kids have got to appreciate it … and win in Vienna!”
And for his take on Maccabi’s futsal success:
“I will be surprised if they don’t win the European Championships. They should win it. They’ve got the talent, they’ve been together for a long time. There is no team in Australia where somebody has spent more time on it. John Myers has done absolutely everything in his power for them to succeed.
