Former Liberal Prime Minister John Howard who served Australia in the role from 1996 to 2007 walked around Double Bay shops today with the Liberal candidate for Wentworth Dave Sharma.

Dave Sharma and John Howard

John Howard is the second longest-serving prime minister in Australia’s history.

The retired pm and the aspiring politician faced a media barrage before visiting local businesses.

Dave Sharma told J-Wire: “Mr Howard has been an inspiration to me, and it was an honour to have him alongside me campaigning for Wentworth.”

During his visit, Mr Howard spoke to the media to point out the risks of a hung parliament.

He pointed out: “If an independent were to win the seat, that would result in a hung Parliament, bringing Bill Shorten’s higher taxes and anti-small business agenda much closer.”

He praised Dave Sharma, saying that he already had a great career as a diplomat – becoming Australia’s Ambassador to Israel at the age of 37 – and if elected as a Member for Wentworth, he could go a long way as the community’s representative in Canberra.

  1. Adrian Jackson says:

Bringing out John Howard is a desperation move for the Liberals. I remember when then PM John Howard, who is now 79, lost his seat in 2007 and the “experts” in the print media and on TV said it was because of democratic change of voters in his electorate. Maxine Makew who won for the ALP was defeated next election by John Alexander who has held the seat ever since. So much for the “experts” demographic change theory.

  2. Michael Barnett says:

John Howard unnecessarily amended the Marriage Act in 2004 to prevent recognition of overseas same-sex marriages. He represents a party that at every opportunity has made the lives of LGBTIQ people unnecessary difficult.

A vote for Dave Sharma is a vote for a party that believes in discrimination.

Register a protest vote against Dave Sharma and the Liberal Party if you believe in equal rights under Australian law.
