Senator Fatima Payman has joined The Greens in their motion in the Senate today calling for sanctions against Israel, its prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the Israeli government.

Executive Council of Australian Jewry co-CEO Alex Ryvchin said: “Moving a motion to sanction Israel and to demonise a country fighting terrorist organisations on multiple fronts is a typically low act from a low political party. They have targeted Israel on a Jewish holy day, a solemn day of mourning when Jewish people commemorate our national tragedies including the destruction of the Jewish temples in Jerusalem by foreign powers.
Of course, the Greens will be oblivious to the fact that they have sided with Israel’s oppressors on such a day because their cultural sensitivities do not extend to Jewish people. But our community will have noticed this latest attack and we draw strength from having overcome zealots and tyrants before and mark this day in the knowledge that we will do so again.

We thank the government and opposition for joining to reject this stunt and to rightly isolate the extremists.”

ZFA President Jeremy Leibler said, “Their stunt in the Senate today is another manifestation of the Greens’ profound desire to find every opportunity to bash the world’s only Jewish state.

Once again, the Greens’ motion did not condemn Hamas and did not call for the release of the hostages.”

CEO of the ZFA, Alon Cassuto, said “the Greens’ targeting of Israel today not only falls on a Jewish Holy Day of mourning, but also while the world holds its breath as Israel anticipates attacks by Hezbollah and Iran. We thank the Government and the Opposition for seeing through the Greens’ hateful rhetoric.”

Israel’s ambassador to Australia Amir Maimon posted on X: “It’s as if the horrors of October 7th aren’t even in the Greens’ dictionary. They won’t speak about the murders, rapes, or the 115 people still held hostage. Instead, they focus on sanctioning the only democracy in the Middle East and about cutting ties with the world’s only Jewish state.

The greens are an organisational voice for Hamas/ Islamic Jihad and similar Iranian proxies.
Talking about Israel policies and hate labelling it’s self defence is just a screen for their blatantly obvious antisemitism and has absolutely nothing to do with Palestinians or muslims for that matter.
The greens haven’t got the slightest interest in Muslim welfare- For them it is only about anything were jews are involved.
Yet their silence is deafening when it comes to real muslim suffering such as the million Uighurs in Chinese concentration camps, the plight of muslims in Myanmar or a dozen other places where jews are not part of the picture.
Shame to this sham of an “”Australian”” political party that has absolutely no interest in Australian issues and whos only purpose of existence is to stir antisemitic hatred as much as they can muster…. Shame , shame!

So well said, Alex Ryvchin. Exactly. They know not what they have done and couldn’t care less anyway. What a poor excuse for an Australian political party the Greens have become. And as for Payman, she’ll keep … she’s not representing her electorate, but rather herself. She’s a devious woman who didn’t deserve all the comfort afforded her earlier after her betrayal of the party to whom she was elected to serve.
