The governor thanks OBK
The Governor of NSW Margaret Beazley made a special visit to Our Big Kitchen in Bondi to express her personal gratitude to Rabbi Doctor Dovid Slavin and Rebbitzin Laya and their volunteers for their never-ending support to those in trouble.
Before introducing the Governor, the CEO of the OBK Rabbi Dr Dovid Slavin welcomed, amomgs others, Federal MP Dave Sharma, Labor NSW MP Dr Marjorie O’Neill, former MP and now Mayor of Horsby Philkip Ruddock and Scott Barlow MLC Chair of the NSW Parliamentary Friends of Israel.
Rabbi Slavin told the gathering “The last time I met the governor, we had just come out of the fire season. We spoke about the fact that the kitchen was filled with volunteers who were preparing meals for those affected by the bushfires and sending them out to those affected areas. He said the Governor is an inspiration to all of us, particularly for the young women who are here especially with you becoming the first woman to head the Court of Appeals.”
She said: “Look what you do. I mean you really keep body and soul together. And I’ve been reading you produce 4000 meals a week. And that only gets done because of the generosity of the volunteers. And it’s really important to leave our comfort zone and take time out to look beyond ourselves and do something for others.
So can I just say thank you. Congratulations to every volunteer who has been here to support you. And to young people, you should enjoy every bit of that fantastic life that you are provided with from the hard work of your parents, the wonderful education that you get in this country. But always think look beyond yourself because they’ll always be someone who just need a helping hand.
In some way. And that’s great leadership.”
Speech delivered, it was time for the Governor to don her OBK apron and work with the volunteers to prepare meals and baking Purim hamanteshen.
OBK is delivering food daily to the flood victims in Lismore and Western Sydney.
