The fight against antisemitism becomes a priority for the Dutch
The World Jewish Congress has welcomed the decision of the Government of the Netherlands to allocate three million Euros to fighting antisemitism, a matter which has now been added to the list of national priorities for the first time.
The decision was taken during discussions concerning the national budget between parties in the governing coalition.
Commenting on the move, WJC President Ronald S. Lauder said: “I commend the Netherlands for taking this important step to fight antisemitism at its root, as well as for its existing commitment to the security of Jewish communities in the country. Last December, the Council of the European Union passed a historic declaration on the fight against antisemitism and the development of common security approaches for the Jewish communities, calling on Member States to implement practical measures.
It is encouraging to see that the Netherlands is following through on its part to prioritize this matter, and we hope that other Member States will take note of this decision as they themselves work to implement the recommendations of the declaration.”
