A strike carried out by the IDF in the heart of Damascus this morning killed two civilians and wounded six others, Syria’s official SANA reported.

The attack was carried out on a residential building near the Lebanese Embassy in Mezza area in Damascus, SANA said.

The target of the strike was Akram Ajouri, a senior Islamic Jihad official who served as a liaison between Iran and the terror group in the Gaza Strip. Ajouri was not killed in the strike, but his son and a bodyguard were.

Syria’s Interior Minister, Maj. Gen. Mohammad Khalid Al-Rahmoun stated during his visit to the site of the strike that the residential building was targeted by several missiles.

SANA reported that the building was badly damaged and the windows of nearby buildings and a number of cars were shattered.

Israel has remained silent and has not responded to the reports.

The attack in Syria occurred as the IDF eliminated Islamic Jihad commander Bahaa al-Ata in northern Gaza.
