This global memorial organised by StandWithUs Australia will begin at 6:29 am, the precise time the attack took place, offering a solemn opportunity to honour the victims and address the growing tide of antisemitism that has emerged in the aftermath. Other commemorations will follow around the world at this time.

The event will be held in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs, with the exact location to be announced closer to the date. It will bring together individuals, community leaders, and supporters to remember those who lost their lives, recognise the resilience of survivors, and confront the challenges facing Jewish communities worldwide. The brief event will feature speeches by politicians from all tiers of government, prayers and music.

The significance of 6:29am on October 7

On October 7, 2023, at 6:29 AM, Israel endured one of the most devastating attacks in its modern history. This unprovoked assault led to the tragic loss of many lives, leaving a lasting impact on Israel and the global Jewish community. By gathering at this symbolic time, the commemoration will honour the victims, reflect on the event’s profound significance, and reinforce a collective stance against hatred and violence.

Since that day, there has been a disturbing rise in antisemitism around the world, including in Australia. The increase in harmful rhetoric, acts of vandalism, graffiti, and hate speech directed at Jewish communities has been alarming. This event aims to not only serve as a memorial but also as a call to action for all Australians to unite against antisemitism and other forms of hate.

The commemoration will take place on Monday, October 7, 2024, at 6:29 AM in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs. All members of the public are invited to join this important gathering, which provides an opportunity to reflect on the past, confront the challenges of the present, and commit to building a future free from hatred and intolerance.
