Sydney solidarity rally goes ahead
Members of the Sydney community will rally to enforce their support for Israel.
Federal Liberal MP Dave Sharma, NSW Labor member for Coogee Dr Marjorie O’Neill, president of ECAJ Jillian Segal, the president of State Zionist Council of NSW Rodney Naumberger and AUJS NSW president Nadia Coburn will join The New South Wales Jewish Board of Deputies’ president Lesli Berger in addressing the gathering.
Registration to attend the rally is open to those who have had invitations.
Lesli Berger told J-Wire: “Notwithstanding the ceasefire, which I hope and pray will last, it is still important that we express our solidarity with Israel.”
Need to know venue and time, to participate
It is not good to have no Jewish presence at all publicly supporting Israel, especially when so many thousands around the world rally together to both support the Palestinians and vehemently denounce Israel.
A rally is also being organised in Caulfield (Melbourne) by the Jewish community on Sunday and I hope it goes ahead, despite the hateful threats that have emanated in regard to it.
If we cannot, as Jews, express ourselves in safety in Australian streets, then where can we do so?
There is now a cease fire in place. Thankfully. We hope that it will hold.
To hold a rally at this point is ill considered.
What exactly will this achieve? What have the other rallies around the world achieved?
I fear this will just provoke a free for all attack on the attendees, which will only publicise the opposition and antisemitic ruffians who love a brawl.
I absolutely agree with Sam Goldman. What is to be gained other than to generate more division within the Australian community. I think there is a great concern that violence will be created. Scott Morrison stated that the Australian community did not wish to generate conflict and possibly violence. Contribute much needed funds to Magen David Odom but reconsider what dangers can be created by the proposed rally for our institutions, for news media and social media misrepresentation, and for our personal safety.
To say nothing, hide or shrug it off because “Ije tov” ( It will all be ok in the end) has been the jewish way for centuries, It did NOT WORK! Time to stand up for ourselves and shout out loud!
The louder our outrage at the monumental lies and blattant antisemitism the better.
