Sydney Jewish Museum: Labor Shadow Minister congratulates NSW Treasurer
In the spirit of bipartisanship, NSW Shadow Minister for Police and Counter-Terrorism Walt Secord has welcomed the decision by the NSW Liberal government to provide $6.25 million to the Sydney Jewish Museum.
Walt Secord said: “The work of the Sydney Jewish Museum is immeasurable and it ensures that future generations of Australians are educated and learn about the Shoah.
I still remember in the late-1980s when I was a journalist at the Australian Jewish News and the Sydney Jewish Museum was just a dream, but today, it is a world-class institution.”
When the funding announcement was made official at noon today, Walt Secord sent a personal text message to NSW Treasurer Dominic Perrottet praising him for making the one-off appropriation.
He added: “I will be the first to criticise the State Treasurer when he deserves it, but on this measure, he has my full support and I endorse this expenditure.”
This is a deep and solid investment in the fight against intolerance and prejudice in our community.”
In the text message between their private mobile phones, Mr Secord wrote to Mr Perrottet, saying: “Dom: Bravo on $6.25 million to Sydney Jewish Museum. Walt”
Mr Secord added that he got his staff member to put a “clapping” emoji at the end of the message.
Walt Secord is the deputy chair of the NSW Parliamentary Friends of Israel.
