Steven Zhang, a local resident of St Ives and owner of the St Ives Greengrocer, has supported the local Jewish community in St Ives by donating sale proceeds to victims of terror in Israel through UIA.

It’s a highly appreciated fact that the St Ives Greengrocer stocks a range of Kosher products such as Jesse’s Bread, fresh Soul Gourmet products, Solomon Meat and Eazy Foods. Steven Zhang’s shop has become a source of convenient Shabbat shopping and a place to pick up Israeli treats and imported snacks.

Deeply moved by the recent murderous attack on Israeli civilians and subsequent war in Israel, Zhang felt motivated to donate funds to UIA’s Victims of Terror Fund. On Friday, 13 October, 10% of the sales from the St Ives Greengrocer, including additional contributions from some of his suppliers, were collected.

Steven Zhang has been described by community members as a true “mensch; a fine human being” and “full of compassion and support for our community.”

UIA CEO Yair Miller said: “The community was so deeply moved by Steven’s spontaneous desire to help and his incredible sensitivity. At challenging times like these, it is wonderful to have true friends stand up and be counted. Our community gains so much more from these sorts of acts than the value of the money itself. Other businesses have done similar things and we are deeply appreciative.”
