Surf Living to make its mark at Maccabiah
“The Israel Life Saving Federation (ILSF) will host the first-ever Surf Life Saving exhibition sports competition to be held at the 21st Maccabiah in Israel in July next year.
The games have full endorsement from both the Maccabi World Union and the International Life Saving Federation. The competition is open to young and not so young Jewish life Savers, male and female, available to represent Australia in all the traditional life-saving events. It will be a unique opportunity for the many Jewish Life Savers from North Bondi, Bondi, Coogee and South Maroubra to name a few as well as all the other clubs around the country to participate in the Maccabiah Games.
This surf life-saving competition also has special significance as the last Surf Life Saving Carnival in Israel was held by the ANZACS in 1942 on Jaffa beach.
President of the federation Paul Hakim said: “Who would ever believe that 80 years later, the Australian Life-Saving tradition is back on the Israeli beaches! This would be a once in a lifetime experience for lifesavers to participate in the first-ever Life Saving Sport Competition at the 21st Maccabiah in Israel and hopefully reinstating both the iconic Australian Life-Saving tradition and the Maccabiah one as well!’’ said Paul.
