SUREFIRE LEGAL SCHEME IS A FARCE
FIND ME A LAWYER! – by Tony Laumberg
Newtown Theatre 18 August to 4 September 2011
Fun and frivolity rule as writer/producer, Tony Laumberg and director Richard Cotter return to present their 11th play together. Turn off the lights, suck in your breath and let the hilarity begin!
Finally, Marty Fish has come up with a foolproof scheme to make a quick-fire million dollars. He has engaged eminent US Supreme Court Justice, Elizabeth Overschott, to be the keynote speaker at a prestigious legal conference he has organized in Sydney.
But when, after a scuffle with a thief at the airport, the Justice is knocked out with her own suitcase, it all goes off the rails. Not only does Marty’s guest speaker lose her memory – the day before the conference – but his wife is leaving him for a merchant banker and the Tax Office are chasing him for… you guessed it, a million dollars. And then things get really bad!
Find Me a Lawyer! is one hell of a roller-coaster ride that takes in a mid-life crisis, tax fraud, a separating couple, freedom of speech and an incompetent plumber who’d rather destroy a house than admit he can’t find a blockage.
Tony Laumberg’s other plays include a slew of sell-out legal-themed farces (Bondi Legal, Undercover Lawyer, My Fair Lawyer, Lawyers in Love and Two Weddings and a Lawyer among them) as well as The Lucky One and the children’s play Bunter from the Hinterland. This production marks his return to the theatre where his first two plays, Unsolicited Male and The Great Divide, were produced to great success.
Find Me a Lawyer! stars Valentino Arico, Trudi Boatwright, Mark McCann, Brigid O’Sullivan and Kath Perry and runs for three weeks from Thursday 18 August at the Newtown Theatre.
