SUMMIT UIA: Book now for a campaign with a difference
UIA shares with the community its planned annual event for 2022: Summit UIA.
Where UIA used to bring the community together for one extraordinary communal event, Summit UIA gives the community the choice to join up to five incredible nights of engagement, education and entertainment, all in support of the People of Israel.
From Sunday 27 February to Thursday 3 March participants can join one night, three nights or all five in a series of UIA events like no other. With our feet at home and our hearts in Israel, there is something for everyone in this diverse and unparalleled lineup of speakers and topics:
Sunday 27 Feb: Politics with a senior politician and member of Knesset (to be announced closer to the time)
Monday 28 Feb: Culture with acclaimed actress Shira Haas, known for her roles in the hit Netflix shows Shtisel and Unorthodox. On the big screen, Haas appeared in Natalie Portman’s A Tale of Love and Darkness. The New York Times has called Haas “a phenomenon, expressive and captivating”.
Tuesday 1 March: Sport with Linoy Ashram and Omri Casspi
Linoy Ashram is the first Israeli woman to win an Olympic gold medal in any sport and the first Israeli rhythmic gymnast to win an Olympic medal. Amongst her other achievements is the 2020 Olympic all-around champion, the 2020 European all-around champion and the 2019 European games, all-around silver medallist.
Former professional NBA player for 10 consecutive season Omri Casspi was the first Israeli to play in the NBA. Casspi runs the Omri Casspi Foundation, which sponsors trips for NBA players, WNBA players and other celebrities to Israel. He is also the co-founder and managing director of an early-stage venture capital fund focusing on the Israeli technology ecosystem.
Wednesday 2 March: Global Jewry with Israel advocate, author and creator of the popular blog and podcast, Israel from the Inside, Daniel Gordis. Gordis’ history of Israel, entitled Israel: A Concise History of a Nation Reborn, received the 2016 National Jewish Book Award as “Book of the Year.” Ambassador Dennis Ross, reflecting on the book, wrote, “When I am asked ‘Is there one book to read about Israel?’ I now have an answer.”
Gordis’ writing has appeared in magazines and newspapers including the New York Times and Foreign Affairs.
Thursday 3 March: Security with Yossi Cohen, former Director of Mossad and instrumental negotiator of the Abraham Accords
As director of Mossad, Cohen personally orchestrated one of its most daring operations for the seizure of the Iranian nuclear archives. This exposure was among the main factors behind the withdrawal of the U.S. from the Iran nuclear deal.
In 2020, Cohen led the negotiations between Israel, the UAE and Bahrain. His unique work with these countries, and the important connections he forged with them, played a significant role in the signing of the ground-breaking Abraham Accords.
Whether you login for one night or for all five, a Summit UIA pass will give participants access to any or all the nights’ events. Simply buy a pass online and join us from the safety, comfort and convenience of your home.
Funds raised from Summit UIA will go towards UIA Australia’s continued support for Aliyah which enables Jews from around the world to return to our Homeland. The surge in global anti-Semitism along with social and economic instability as a result of the global pandemic has also resulted in a rise in Aliyah as thousands of Jews from around the world seek better futures in Israel. With the help of our community’s generous donations, UIA assists new immigrants with the many challenges of rebuilding a life while at the same time realising their dream of making Israel “home”.
UIA Australia Federal President Esther Frenkiel OAM said, “UIA is proud to once again be on the cutting edge of what we offer our community. The line-up of speakers we have managed to secure, to be engaged from the safety of your own home and with such broad appeal is absolutely unique.”
UIA Australia CEO Yair Miller OAM added, “We look forward to “seeing” you virtually at Summit UIA, which like these past two years, will be different. We know that our supporters value their connection to Israel and our people, so we have found a way to make sure that this is not compromised.”
