The remarkable life Chiune Sugihara, dubbed the “Oskar Schindler of Japan”, is the focus of a play currently on stage in Australia.

Titled “The Warrior and the Princess” by playwrights Shirley Van Sanden and Monica Main, it traces the life of the Japanese diplomat in Lithuania during the Holocaust who defied his government’s orders and saved some 10,000 Jews by issuing visas to Japan.

The playwrights were inspired by the altruism displayed by Sugihara in their one-hour play – told through puppetry, live action and music – that is showing at The Blue Room in Perth until October 20.
