Succession at the Monte
At the upcoming Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Sir Moses Montefiore Jewish Home, which will be held at the Hunters Hill campus on Sunday, 7 December 2014, the Home’s much respected and much admired Honorary Secretary, Max Kahn, will not be seeking re-election to the Board.
BY PRESIDENT DAVID FREEMAN AM
Max Kahn steps down, Peter Gonski nominates as Honorary Secretary
Max first joined the Montefiore Board in 2001 and during his tenure he has been a tireless and invaluable contributor in his role as Honorary Secretary as well as Chairman of the Home’s Admissions Committee.
In addition to his Board commitments, Max was Fete Convenor for 16 years and through his work on the Fete, Max stimulated interest in Montefiore and developed a network of companies and charitable Jewish families who were willing to provide support.
On behalf of the Board of Management and all of the Home’s members, supporters, residents and families, I thank Max for his significant contribution and longstanding support of the Home.
With regard to finding a suitable successor for Max, I am delighted to advise that Associate Professor Peter Gonski has nominated for the position of Honorary Secretary and will offer himself for election at this year’s AGM.
Peter joined the Montefiore Board in 2008 and in so doing brought with him his considerable clinical and aged care experience. He is Director of Southcare, Sutherland Hospital and Community Services, Clinical Stream Director for Aged Care Rehabilitation, South Eastern Sydney Local Health District and Associate Professor, Faculty of Medicine, NSW.
In addition, Peter is a member of the Home’s Clinical Advisory Committee. I am sure you will agree that Peter has an impressive set of credentials and is unquestionably a worthy candidate.

Happy retirement Max. You have been a tower of strength both as Fete Convenor and Hon Secretary.
All the best to Peter Gonski. He has a hard act to follow but certainly has the qualifications and expertise to be a real asset for the Monte Executive.
