The objective of the incursion was to complement their current History topic, the Vietnam War. The students were fascinated to hear first-hand how Vin Cosgrove had been conscripted into the Australian army in 1967, at the age of 20 and was required to do two years of service for his country. He and his wife, Nancy, shared insights into the lead up to the War and enhanced the students’ understanding of the war experience with slideshows, videos, maps and diagrams, depicting the horrific experiences of the War and the morale of the soldiers.

“We had been looking forward to the incursion and we learned so much about the experiences of those involved,” said one of the students. “It was so interesting to hear their stories of how life was for the returning soldiers, and how many suffered the effects of the battles even on their return to Australia.”
