The State Library of Victoria has currently on display  a print portraying former Premier Jeff Kennett as a cow surrounded by trees in the shape of swastikas.

kennettprinThe image called “Do I Pass Muster” was conceived by Australian artist Juan Davila and was bought by the State Government in 2000.

Federal Labour MP Michael Danby, whose Melbourne Ports electorate has a strong Jewish presence, told J-Wire: “Our State Library is a highly-regarded and serious institution. The only possible reason for them displaying a work of art that implies Kennett is a Nazi and trivialises the Holocaust is that they have made a mistake.”

A spokesperson for the Library told media that the trees could be cacti…but the notes accompanying the work describe them as swastikas.

John Searle, President of the Jewish Community Council of Victoria told J-Wire that he was not aware of the exhibition. He said: ” I will be definitely looking into this first thing tomorrow.”
