Special service for new law term

Sydney’s The Great Synagogue has hosted the annual service to mark the opening of the legal term.

The Chief Justice, the Hon Tom Bathurst led the procession of judges and lawyers and afterwards addressed the official dinner. Other guests included NSW Attorney General Gabrielle Upton and the President of the Court of Appeal.

The service was conducted by the Chief Minister, Rabbi Dr Benjamin Elton, Cantor Joshua Weinberger and The Great Synagogue Choir, conducted by Robert Teicher, Rabbi Alon Meltzer of the ACT Jewish Community took part in the service as the first Canberra rabbi to do so. The judges, lawyers and other guests commented on the beauty of the service, the insightful sermon and the importance of the event in promoting the connections between the legal and Jewish communities.”
