Next week’s September plenum of the NSW Jewish Board of Deputies will be different from all other plenums in four respects:
– it will be addressed by Israeli Ambassador Yuval Rotem,
– it will feature a tribute to the 11 Israeli athletes and coaches who were murdered at the Munich Olympics in 1972,
– it will include a minute’s silence to the 3000 victims of 9/11 as the meeting will be held on September 11,
– it will take place in the Sephardi Synagogue for the first time ever in recognition of the fact that 2012 marks the 50th anniversary of the synagogue.
“Ambassador Rotem is coming to Sydney especially to address the plenum,” Board of Deputies chief executive officer Vic Alhadeff said. “He will deliver an update on the situation in Israel and will lead a memorial to the Munich 11.
“It is also an opportune moment to acknowledge the golden anniversary of the Sephardi Synagogue and its stirling contribution to the community. We encourage members of the community to attend.”
