Speakers to inspire at JCA’s fundraising event
JCA’s Annual Fundraising Event on Sunday 26 May is an opportunity to share in the Insight and Illumination of two important guest speakers whose message is timely and compelling for the Jewish community including French philosopher Bernard-Henri Levi.
Bernard-Henri Lévy, described by the Boston Globe as “perhaps the most prominent intellectual in France today” has a unique vantage point of the rising tide of antisemitism and extremist ideology in Europe, the United States and now surfacing in Australia and New Zealand.
Speaking for the first time in Australia, for one night only at the JCA event, Lévy warns that “Antisemitism is back. Everywhere. Openly.” The philosopher, activist, filmmaker and author of over thirty books, including The Genius of Judaism, is an outspoken advocate for the responsibility that thinking Jews have as a moral force for light in a darkening world.
He believes in the unique moral contribution that Jews have bestowed upon the world. In his book The Genius of JudaismLévy describes the ″defence of a certain idea of man and God, of history and time, of power, voice, light, sovereignty, revolt, memory, and nature – an idea that contains what I call, in homage to one of the few really great French writers to have understood some of its mystery, the genius of Judaism.″
Lévy recognises Jewishness throughout the ages as a powerful source for good and morality in the world, which is once again under extreme threat.
Andrew Kuper, Australian founder and CEO of Leapfrog Investments is a world-leading pioneer in social-impact, for purpose investing who believes we have the power to change the world through the choices we make. His “profit with a purpose” bridges the worlds of money and meaning.
Born and raised in South Africa, and imbued with a sense of social responsibility from an early age by his anti-apartheid campaigner parents, Kuper was educated at Wits, Cambridge and Harvard Universities. He has authored books on governance and globalisation and is the recipient of numerous awards for his work and his vision to “bring together things that were supposed to be kept apart: profit and purpose, money and meaning, global and local, developing and developed, investment and poverty relief”.
Kuper has tapped into a changing mindset that he believes will become the norm in the next ten years and speaks to the aspirations and ideals of our future generations.
Bernard-Henri Lévy and Andrew Kuper are part of a very special night that will change the way we see our community and the world around us.
