Associate Professor Barry Slobedman has been presented with the 2012 Sir Zelman Cowen Universities Fund prize.

The Sydney University researcher received the award which carries a cash component of $10,000 for the research he has carried out on the CMV virus which is considered to be carried by about 70% of people.

He was presented with his prize at a luncheon held at the Shangri-La Hotel in Sydney by Sister Wendy Morel from the Schwartz Foundation.

Amongst those addressing the function was Professor Shy Arkin, the Vice-President and Chair. Authority for Research and Development at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
