Shir Madness has announced the artists who will appear at its second Jewish music festival to be held in Sydney in March.

Israel’s top pop artist Mosh Ben Ari, Australian music icon Deborah Conway, Old Man River plus Sydney’s own Tim Freedman lead the impressive list of musicians headlining at the 25 March super fest, running all day and night on five stages at Bondi Beach.

Over 40 bands/artists on five stages will feature when Shir Madness follows from the smash success of its inaugural festival in 2010, with a new and generous helping of wild and wonderful Jewish Music.

Shir Madness is a full day-night music festival showcasing and celebrating the diversity of Jewish music and Jewish performers. This year it brings together outstanding local performers as well as guest artists from Israel, England, America, New Zealand, regional NSW and Victoria.

The festival will feature music to appeal to all tastes and all ages. With 5 stages and over 40 acts over 11 hours from 11am, it’s a delicious musical mixed plate where you can simply taste or totally get your teeth into!  Klezmer, choral, ladino, chassidic, Israeli, jazz, cabaret, folk, blues, pop, rock, funk, reggae and rap… you’ll find it all at Shir Madness®!

Last year, over 2000 people – a complete cross-section of Sydney music-lovers- packed the iconic and picturesque beach-side venue. They enjoyed not only a mind-blowing variety of music but also visual arts and crafts, exotic food stalls and a true festival atmosphere. This year’s program will have all this and more including the Inheritance multimedia art exhibition and dance!

In 2012 the day-long festival features all new artists plus a couple of high profile favourites returning by invitation – among them Deborah Conway and triple Aria-Award-winning gypsy jazz legends Monsieur Camembert.

Big name debutantes this year also include Melbourne’s wild gypsy pop Barons of Tang, Ethiopian-born now Sydney-based cult star Dereb the Ambassador, famous New York a capella choir The Western Wind, the all-women London Klezmer Quartet and Australian classical music crossover pianist Simon Tedeschi.

Plus NZ band Gimmel, Lanrae, Raz Bin Sam & the Lion I Band, Johnno Zilber, Keppie Coutts, Freaks in Love (featuring Ilan Kidron from the Potbelleez), Masha’s Legacy, tasty acoustic band My Sauce Good, exotic world music singer Miriam Lieberman (singing in English and Bambara!), Susanna Carman, Sam Joole, Ricketty Bridge, Benezra (both Vic), Kim Cunio & Heather Lee, Moroccan-inspired Shai Shriki, Alexi Kaye, Dahlia Dior, Moshe Hendel, Second Dan, Klezmer Divas, Zohar’s Nigun, Magic Strings, 17 year old Aliza Waxman, Mindy Sotiri and the Jaga Band.
