This weekend, the vibrant energy of music in the Jewish community will feature classic songs from classic composers as Shir Madness presents it first ever sideshow.

On May 31 at the Jam Gallery in Bondi Junction Shir Madness welcomes audiences to come and enjoy the opening sideshow with many more tribute nights to come. This one will pay tribute to famous Jewish composers and outstanding musicians including Paul Simon, Bob Dylan and Carole King.

This musical event will also be welcoming back to the stage the following musical talents: Illan Kidron (The Potbelleez), glass, Freaks in Love, Ange Takants, Alexi Kaye, Ben Goldstein (The Voice, Barefoot Band) and Aliza Waxman.

Here is a brief get-to-know-you on the musical talents that will be performing on the night.

Ange Takats

Ange Takats has a soulful voice that has been compared to Joni Mitchell and Billie Holiday. Ange’s music career began in Thailand where she worked as a journalist by day and folk singer by night. She was named ‘Folk/ Singer Songwriter’ at the 2013 Queensland Music Awards following the release of her second album, ‘Arva’. Ange’s has a natural ability to conjure deep emotionality through her voice

 

Ben Goldstein

Ben Goldstein hails from Sydney’s Bondi Beach and has been playing guitar since he was 13. Ben’s melodic and harmonic taste has been influenced by many of the 60’s and 70’s legends such as America, Don Mclean, Crosby, Stills and Nash to name a few. Ben has a dynamic musical background. Performing at local gigs in Sydney, busking in the biggest cities in Europe and then shooting to national acclaim while competing on Australia’s The Voice Season 2, where he was placed as a finalist. Recently Ben recorded an album ‘Beachside Nation’ which through a unique sound pays homage to musicians and bands that have shaped the aural traditions of this world.

Ilan Kidron has risen to stardom dramatically over the past few years as the singer of the Potbelleez. He has written four top 20 songs, been nominated for three ARIA Awards and won the APRA Best Dance Award for the Platinum selling Potbelleez anthem “Don’t Hold Back.” Ilan sings in several languages including French, English, Italian, Hebrew, Spanish and Portuguese and plays the guitar and the flute. Some of Ilan’s larger performances include the Australian MTV awards, Australian Idol and many others.

Aliza Waxman

Aliza’s smooth and soulful voice will fill the little cracks in your heart with original songs inspired artists such as Nick Drake and Joni Mitchell. Aliza currently fronts the local Sydney jazz band 33 Degrees. Inspired by folk sounds as well as a growing passion for jazz, she has created a truly unique musical style.

Alexi Kaye

Alexi Kaye is South-African born and has been living in Sydney for most of her adult life. Her voice is a soulful mix of emotive grave and power and has been known to stir the soul. Alexi has successfully toured and played with many bands around Australia for the last fifteen years. Be sure to hear her and others perform at the Shir Madness Tribute night!
