Multicultural leaders across Sydney have been invited to pay their respects this Shabbat at The Great Synagogue, at a service  to honor His Royal Highness Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, who passed away last Friday.

Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh

On Saturday morning, 17 April, The Great Synagogue will host Multicultural and Jewish Communal leaders during a Shabbat morning service, where a memorial prayer will be recited, and Rabbi Dr Benjamin Elton will deliver a sermon in memory of the Duke.

Prince Philip had a strong history with Australia and, like his mother, was a great friend of the Jewish people. Rabbi Elton said, “We remember the Duke’s exceptional service to the Commonwealth and his friendship with the Jewish Community. We are proud to honour him this Shabbat.”

The Great Synagogue would like to invite the wider community to attend the service. The service begins at 8.45am and Rabbi will deliver his sermon at 10.30am. If you would like to attend, please email [email protected]
