Sapphires in Tel Aviv
The Australian movie “The Sapphires” had its Israeli premiere in Tel Aviv this week.
The film was introduced by Australia’s ambassador to Israel Andrea Faulkner who told the audience at the Lev Cinema in the city’s Dizengoff Centre that the story was set in 1968 in Australia and Vietnam and had “received lots of positive reviews from critics and audiences”.
The film, which tells the story of four aboriginal singers and their Irish manager who performed for troops during the war in Vietnam.
As well as an enthusiastic Israeli audience including members of the country’s film industry, the screening was attended by ex-pats.
